Regulations are typically considered a hindrance to the industries that must deal with them, but they also create opportunities for smart entrepreneurs who can jump in to help companies comply. That was Evren Ozkaya’s situation in 2014.
As director of strategic planning at pharmaceutical giant Sandoz, Evren spent the previous two years setting up a digital track-and-trace program to ensure drug security and traceability from the factory to the patient. Halfway through that process, then-President Obama signed legislation to make track-and-trace the law of the land. Evren launched Supply Chain Wizard, a consulting firm specializing in helping pharmaceutical companies not only become compliant with the new rules but also help them digitize more of their manufacturing and supply chain operations.
To do that, Supply Chain Wizard developed its own proprietary software so that it could implement similar programs quickly and efficiently client after client. Along the way, clients would ask if the company could develop applications for other business processes as well. Slowly but surely, Supply Chain Wizard was becoming a software company. During the 2019 Birthing of Giants Fellowship Week, Evren pulled the trigger and decided to go all-in with a new digital manufacturing application that would take his business beyond the pharma industry and into factories around the world.
