Amit Kapoor was just starting his senior year at George Washington University when four airliners were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Somerset County, Pennsylvania—an attack that resulted in 2,977 deaths. The tragic event shifted the trajectory of Amit’s career forever.
As a computer science major who would go on to earn a master’s degree in the subject, Amit was perfectly positioned to join the swarms of tech graduates in Silicon Valley. Except that Amit wasn’t interested in following the crowds, instead seeking his own entrepreneurial path. He found that path not long after September 11, 2001, when he learned about the hundreds of first responders who rushed toward the burning buildings to save lives, with more than 400 losing their own lives in the process. One thing that stuck in his mind was that the safety equipment that many emergency responders use is heavy and cumbersome, making their job even more difficult.
After graduating, Amit created First Line Technology in order to provide first responders and military personnel with high-quality equipment so they can better serve those in need.
